Aston Villa are among three Premier League clubs reportedly keeping tabs on Atlético Madrid winger Álex Baena ahead of the January transfer window. Sport Witness, relaying a report by Spanish journalist Rubén Hurtado for Esto es Atleti, claims Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle United are all closely monitoring the Spain international following his impressive start to the domestic season and his role in Spain's World Cup victory.

The connection between Baena and Villa manager Unai Emery dates back to their time together at Villarreal, where the winger developed before eventually moving to the Spanish capital. That existing relationship is cited as a factor in Villa's interest, particularly after Morgan Rogers departed for Chelsea in July, leaving a vacancy in the attacking ranks.

Manchester City's attention is said to stem from a reshaped forward line following summer departures, while Newcastle are reportedly searching for reinforcements after losing Anthony Gordon earlier in the year. Baena has scored three goals already this term, keeping him firmly on the radar of English clubs.

Any potential move faces significant obstacles, however. According to the report, Atlético Madrid have adopted a firm stance and do not intend to sell the player at any price midway through the campaign. Baena himself is described as content with his current role in Madrid and has no plans to push for an exit.

With the transfer window having closed on 1 September, no Premier League club can complete a signing until it reopens on 1 January 2027. Should Baena maintain his form over the coming months, the English interest detailed by Esto es Atleti may persist, but Atlético's reluctance makes a winter deal appear unlikely at this stage.
