Aston Villa were reported to have encountered a problem in their hunt for a new central defender following Ezri Konsa's move to Arsenal. Sports Mole stated on 21 August that the club had suffered a setback while trying to identify a suitable replacement, though the publication did not specify which player was involved or outline the nature of the obstacle.

Konsa completed his transfer to Arsenal before the summer window closed on 1 September. His exit left a vacancy at the back that Villa were said to be keen to fill before the deadline passed, but according to the report those plans did not progress smoothly.

Because the Premier League transfer window has now shut, no permanent additions can be made until it reopens on 1 January 2027. Any outstanding defensive recruitment will therefore have to be addressed in the new year, assuming the club still considers it a priority.
