Aston Villa are reportedly working on revised terms for Ian Maatsen, according to Football Insider. The publication stated on 10 September that discussions are under way to secure the defender's future at Villa Park beyond his existing agreement, which runs until 2030.
Maatsen has been named in the starting line-up for all five of Unai Emery's Premier League fixtures so far this term. The 24-year-old arrived from Chelsea in 2024 and made 44 appearances last season, though only 25 of those came from the outset.
His elevated status within the squad follows the departure of Lucas Digne to Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window. That exit cleared a path for the Netherlands international to claim the first-choice left-back berth under Emery.
Football Insider also reports that Manchester United attempted to sign Maatsen on a temporary basis shortly before the window shut on 1 September. The claim suggests Villa rebuffed that approach, having no intention of letting the player leave.
With the market now closed until January 2027, the club are said to be keen to formalise an updated arrangement that reflects his increased importance to the team. The outlet adds that other European sides have also monitored his situation.
Aston Villa have not publicly commented on the speculation surrounding Maatsen's contractual position.
