Aston Villa secured the services of 18-year-old winger Ibrahim Mbaye before the summer transfer window closed on 1 September, completing a deal valued at approximately £47 million. Football Insider reported the arrival on 2 September, stating that the teenager has signed a long-term contract at Villa Park after the club fended off competition from Liverpool for his signature.
Mbaye joins as the ninth player brought in during what has been an extensive period of recruitment for Unai Emery’s squad. Defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis subsequently became the tenth addition following a separate £30 million agreement with Southampton.
Born in Trappes, France, the winger moved to Paris Saint-Germain from Versailles in 2018 at the age of ten. He progressed through the youth ranks and made his first-team debut during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring his first Ligue 1 goal and establishing himself as a regular in the senior side last season.
The teenager represents Senegal at international level and is noted for his pace and technical ability on either flank. Former senior Villa scout Bryan King offered a glowing assessment of the acquisition when speaking to Football Insider.
King described the winger as a “hell of a prospect” and suggested the move could prove highly beneficial for the club. He pointed to Mbaye’s background at the French champions as evidence of his quality, noting that PSG were well aware of his development pathway.
Comparisons have previously been drawn between Mbaye and Kylian Mbappé due to shared attributes in speed and technique, although the new Villa arrival has considerable ground to make up on the Real Madrid forward’s record at the same age.
With the transfer window now closed until January 2027, Mbaye will look to integrate into the first-team setup over the coming months. His adaptation to English football remains the immediate focus after a summer of heavy investment at Villa Park.
