Aston Villa confirmed on Wednesday 2 September that Leon Bailey has left the club to join Olympiacos on a permanent deal. The Jamaica international's departure was part of a busy end to the summer transfer window at Villa Park, which closed on 1 September.

According to Sports Mole, AEK Athens had been heavily linked with the winger shortly before his destination was finalised. The report, published on 3 September, stated that the fellow Greek side ultimately missed out on securing his signature.

Bailey's exit followed several other significant departures for Unai Emery's squad during the summer window. Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martínez, Ezri Konsa and Lucas Digne were among those who also left the club permanently ahead of the deadline.

With the window now shut until January 2027, Villa's squad is set for the coming months. The team travel to the Coventry Building Society Arena on Wednesday 16 September for their League Cup tie against Coventry City, before returning to Premier League action away at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium three days later.
