Aston Villa are reportedly preparing to hold internal discussions about Unai Emery's position after the team failed to win any of their first four Premier League matches this season. According to Football Insider, the most recent defeat came in a 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest, extending a run that has prompted outside observers to question how long the club will wait for an improvement.
Mick Brown, identified by the outlet as a former Villa scout, stated that parting company with Emery is not impossible should the run without a victory continue. He suggested that while the manager cannot shoulder all responsibility, any Premier League head coach enduring such a start would inevitably face scrutiny over their record.
Brown pointed to the summer transfer window as a significant factor in the team's difficulties, claiming the squad lost several key players during a turbulent period. Although replacements arrived before the window closed on 1 September, he argued there are limits to what any manager can achieve when the overall strength of the group has been reduced.
Despite those concerns, Football Insider reports that Villa intend to offer Emery time and backing to reverse the trend. The publication highlights that last season's Premier League campaign also began without a win in the opening five matches before the team recovered to finish fourth.
Another former scout, Byrna King, was quoted by the same outlet earlier this month suggesting Emery could become the next high-profile manager to depart his role if the poor results persisted.
