Sport Witness reported on 27 August that Aston Villa were prepared to sell Emiliano Martínez to a Premier League rival before the summer transfer window closed. Citing Argentine media, the publication claimed the club had softened their position on letting the goalkeeper leave Villa Park.

According to the same report, Chelsea held a confirmed interest in Martínez, while Tottenham were said to be waiting in the background should an opportunity arise. No potential transfer fee was discussed by the outlet.

The summer window ultimately closed on 1 September without Villa completing any such deal during the open registration period. Martínez is now listed among players who have departed the club, with Chelsea noted as his current team.

With the transfer market shut until January 2027, no Premier League club can register new signings at present. Any further movement involving former Villa players will have to wait until the new year.
