Aston Villa are reportedly preparing to offer Amadou Onana a contract extension running until 2031, according to Birmingham Live. The claim, first published on 4 September, suggests the club intend to commit their long-term future to the midfielder despite his current spell on the sidelines.
Onana is working his way back from serious knee ligament damage suffered while representing Belgium. The injury occurred during his nation's World Cup knockout fixture against America and is expected to rule him out for most, if not all, of the current campaign.
The 50-million-pound signing arrived from Everton in the summer of 2024 and has since made 72 appearances for Villa, finding the net seven times. His time in the Midlands has been interrupted by fitness problems, but the club are said to remain fully behind him.
Birmingham Live adds that Villa want to secure fresh terms for several members of the squad now the summer transfer window has closed. With Premier League business suspended until January 2027, the focus has shifted to retaining existing talent rather than recruiting new arrivals.
Initial discussions over a new agreement for Lamare Bogarde have already taken place, the outlet states. Captain John McGinn shares a similar contractual position to the younger midfielder, with two years left on his current deal.
Emi Buendia is also mentioned among those whose futures require attention, as the Argentine enters the final twelve months of his contract. Resolving these situations would give the coaching staff greater certainty heading into the winter months.
