Aston Villa monitored Endrick loan before Real Madrid forward opted to stay
Birmingham Live reports the Brazilian was open to a temporary move away from the Bernabeu, but Unai Emery's side turned their attention elsewhere after a busy summer window.
Aston Villa explored the possibility of signing Real Madrid forward Endrick on loan during the summer transfer window, according to a report published by Birmingham Live on 2 September. The outlet claims the Brazilian was willing to leave the Bernabeu temporarily, with Villa and AS Roma among the clubs paying close attention to his situation.
Endrick ultimately chose to remain in Spain after a meeting with Jose Mourinho, Birmingham Live states. The report suggests the teenager could become available for a loan move again when the window reopens in January 2027, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Lyon, where he registered 16 goal contributions across 21 appearances in all competitions.
Villa’s interest in younger attacking talent was evident throughout a busy summer. The window closed on 1 September, meaning no Premier League club can register new players until the new year. Before the deadline, Unai Emery’s squad underwent significant changes, with Birmingham Live reporting expenditure of more than £200 million on replacements after several key departures.
Among those arriving were Johan Manzambi, Alejandro Garnacho, Nicolas Jackson, Joao Gomes and goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. On deadline day, 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye joined from Paris Saint-Germain, a deal Birmingham Live describes as arguably the most exciting addition of the window given the intense competition for his signature over the preceding 12 months.
The publication notes that Villa had also looked at West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen early in the window before he committed to staying in east London, while AC Milan’s Rafael Leao was another name assessed as the club sought additional attacking options. Morgan Rogers departed for Chelsea in what Birmingham Live calls a British record transfer worth £117 million.
Emery’s overarching recruitment strategy this summer focused on lowering the average age of his squad, which Birmingham Live says was the second-oldest in the Premier League last season behind only Fulham. The arrivals are intended to develop in value under the head coach, with 17-year-old centre-forward Brian Madjo also part of the youthful contingent at Bodymoor Heath.
Whether Villa would have room for a player of Endrick’s profile in January remains uncertain. With the summer business concluded and the window now shut until 2027, Emery will work with the group assembled over the past three months as they pursue the club’s objectives this season.
