King argued that losing a goalkeeper, a centre-half, two central midfielders, a left-back and a leading goalscorer placed enormous strain on the coaching staff, questioning whether any club competing in Europe would sell so many key figures at once.
Despite the difficult start, there are parallels with last season, when Villa failed to win any of their opening six fixtures before embarking on a run of 17 victories in 19 games. The scale of player turnover this time around, however, makes direct comparisons complicated.
Emery signed a contract extension keeping him at Villa Park until 2029 and has consistently expressed commitment to the project. The club have not commented on King's remarks, and there is no suggestion the manager is actively seeking a move.
With the transfer window now shut until January 2027, the focus shifts entirely to integrating the new recruits on the training ground.
