Aston Villa are reportedly able to select João Gomes in the Premier League again after he served a three-match suspension, according to Sports Mole. The outlet has tracked the midfielder's availability through several squad updates since late August.
Gomes was sent off during the opening-day 4-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion, which triggered the domestic ban. Sports Mole stated on 3 September that the suspension prevented him from featuring against Arsenal or Hull City but that he remained eligible for European fixtures, including the Champions League meeting with Club Brugge on 8 September.
Before the league campaign began, the Brazilian picked up a calf injury during the UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain. That problem was initially expected to keep him out until early September, compounding his absence from Unai Emery's plans.
The timing is notable given Villa's difficult start to the season. Sports Mole reports that the team have lost both of their opening Premier League matches without scoring, falling to Brighton and then Arsenal at Villa Park.
Emery has been reshaping his squad throughout the summer window, which closed on 1 September. Several established players departed before the deadline, leaving the manager searching for balance in midfield.
With the transfer window now shut until January 2027, no further additions can be made. Any returning personnel, such as Gomes, therefore represent the only immediate reinforcements available to the coaching staff.
Sports Mole indicated on 3 September that Gomes could feature domestically once his red-card punishment concluded. The club have not issued any official update regarding his fitness or selection status.
