Aston Villa made enquiries about Athletico Paranaense forward Kevin Viveros during the summer transfer window, according to Sport Witness. The publication stated on 10 September that both Villa and Sunderland asked questions regarding the 26-year-old Colombian before the deadline passed.
Viveros has continued to score freely in Brazil, finding the net 17 times across 25 league appearances this season. His form has placed him at the top of the domestic scoring charts and made him central to manager Odair Hellmann’s attacking plans.
Despite that interest from England, Villa eventually pursued Nicolas Jackson instead. Sunderland, meanwhile, are said to have evaluated Viveros as an alternative option alongside Brian Brobbey. Neither Premier League club secured a deal, and Watford plus Bristol City had also tracked the player earlier in the year.
Athletico Paranaense resisted approaches during the recent window, including offers understood to be worth up to €20m (£17.3m), with Saudi Arabian clubs also among those rebuffed. ESPN Brazil reports that the club have since agreed new personal terms verbally with Viveros, intending to extend his current contract beyond its June 2028 expiry date and increase his wages.
That extension is designed to strengthen Athletico’s negotiating position ahead of future transfer windows. The Brazilian side now anticipate commanding a fee between €30m (£26m) and €40m (£34.7m) should they decide to sell.
Viveros relies on pace and power rather than operating as a traditional hold-up forward. He prefers running into space behind defensive lines and does most of his damage close to goal, traits that drew attention from several English clubs over the past year.
With the transfer window now closed until January 2027, no Premier League club can complete a signing before then. Any renewed interest from Villa or others would face a substantially higher asking price following his prolific run in Brazil.
