Thomas Hitzlsperger has offered a ringing endorsement of the collaboration between Unai Emery and Aston Villa’s co-owners, describing their combined efforts as remarkable. The former midfielder, speaking to Flashscore and reported by Birmingham Live, pointed to the authority granted to the head coach as the foundation for recent achievements at Villa Park.

According to Hitzlsperger, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens identified Emery as the right figure to reshape the club and provided him with the resources required to execute his vision. He argued that if the ambition was to compete in Europe’s elite competition and secure trophies, the Spanish manager was equipped to deliver exactly that.

The praise arrives during a challenging opening to the domestic campaign. Villa sit sixteenth in the table having won only once across their first five fixtures, following a summer that saw several prominent figures leave the Midlands. Among those departing were Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea, Ollie Watkins, now at Al Hilal, and Ezri Konsa, who moved to Arsenal.
