McGinn and Manzambi feature in Nations League openers for Scotland and Switzerland

John McGinn marked his 90th appearance for Scotland by playing the full match in a goalless draw away to Slovenia on Saturday. The Aston Villa captain was in the starting line-up for the opening Group B1 fixture of the UEFA Nations League, which also served as the first game in charge for new manager Sébastien Pocognoli.

Later that evening, Johan Manzambi represented Switzerland in the same group, starting their match away to North Macedonia. The midfielder, who joined Villa from SC Freiburg in July, played 63 minutes as his country secured a 3-0 victory.

The two team-mates could meet on the pitch when Switzerland travel to Glasgow on Tuesday evening for the next round of Nations League fixtures. Kick-off is scheduled for 7.45pm.

Elsewhere on international duty, Cole Brannigan started for Northern Ireland Under-21s in European Championship qualifying. The young midfielder provided an assist and played 66 minutes as his side recorded a 4-0 away win against Malta.
