Villa head to Spurs looking to halt Premier League wobble

Aston Villa travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday for a 12:30 Premier League kick-off, looking to arrest a stumbling start to their domestic campaign.

Villa have taken just one point from their opening three league matches: a 0-1 home defeat to Arsenal at Villa Park on 31 August was followed by a goalless draw at Hull City's MKM Stadium and then a 1-2 reverse at home to Nottingham Forest.

The picture looks brighter outside the league. Villa came from behind to win 3-2 at Club Brugge in the Champions League on 8 September, and then dispatched Coventry City 3-1 in the League Cup on Wednesday evening at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

With the summer transfer window closed since 1 September, Emery has the squad he will work with until January, a group that includes summer arrivals Nicolas Jackson, Leon Goretzka, Alejandro Garnacho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Matteo Ruggeri and others. Saturday's trip to north London will offer an early measure of how that rebuilt side performs on the road in the top flight.
