João Gomes and Johan Manzambi named in Villa starting XI at Tottenham
Unai Emery hands both summer signings a place from the outset as Aston Villa chase their first Premier League win of the campaign.
Aston Villa have handed summer recruits João Gomes and Johan Manzambi places in the starting line-up for this afternoon's Premier League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur. Birmingham Live confirmed the selections ahead of the 12:30 UK time kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Gomes arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July, while Manzambi was brought in from SC Freiburg shortly afterwards. Both players feature from the outset as Unai Emery looks to secure his side's first league victory of the campaign.
Villa enter the contest having beaten Coventry City 3-1 in the League Cup on Wednesday, following a 2-1 home defeat by Nottingham Forest last weekend. The club have lost three of their opening four Premier League matches this term.
Tottenham are also searching for consistency, having recorded one win, two draws and two losses in their first five league fixtures. Emery's record at this ground offers encouragement, with Villa winning three of their four previous Premier League visits under his management, alongside an FA Cup third-round success last season.
Across all competitions, Villa have won four of their past five meetings with Spurs, although they lost the most recent encounter in May when several changes were made to the starting eleven.
