Aston Villa linked with January move for Sturm Graz teenager Luca Weinhandl

Aston Villa are reportedly keeping tabs on Sturm Graz midfielder Luca Weinhandl, with TEAMtalk claiming the teenager could attract formal bids when the transfer window reopens in January 2027.

The publication states that Villa, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion are all tracking the 17-year-old, who has already broken into senior football in Austria. Scouts from multiple European leagues have been attending his recent domestic matches, according to the report.

Weinhandl is described as a right-footed, box-to-box player standing six feet three inches tall. He came through the youth system at SV Wildon before joining the Sturm Graz academy, and he featured for his country during last year's Under-17 World Cup campaign, which ended in the final.

Sturm Graz are said to be under no immediate pressure to part with him, and the player is reportedly happy continuing his development in Austria for now. A fee in the region of £20 million has been mentioned as a possible benchmark should any club decide to test the Austrian side's resolve.

Interest is not limited to England, with TEAMtalk noting that teams from the German Bundesliga and Serie A are also following his progress. The summer window closed on 1 September, meaning no Premier League club can complete a signing until the new year.

For Villa, who have already overhauled their squad with arrivals including Leon Goretzka and João Gomes since July, adding another young central midfielder would point towards further long-term planning. Whether Unai Emery's recruitment team will make a concrete approach remains to be seen.
