Zion Suzuki is already altering how Aston Villa progress the ball, according to analysis published by Football Insider today. The outlet highlights television broadcast data suggesting the 24-year-old offers a markedly different profile to his predecessor. Where Martínez directed roughly four in ten of his passes long during the previous campaign, Suzuki has opted for distance on nearly half of his attempts so far this term.

More notably, Football Insider claims the new number one delivers the ball into the attacking third at more than double the rate managed by the Argentine last season. That willingness to bypass midfield lines gives Unai Emery an additional method of transitioning quickly from defence to attack.

Villa have adapted swiftly to life without the World Cup winner. After a narrow home defeat by Arsenal on the final day of August, they drew at Hull City before winning 3-2 at Club Brugge in the Champions League. A 3-1 League Cup victory at Coventry and Saturday's 3-2 success at Tottenham have steadied the ship domestically.
