Aston Villa linked with January move for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae

Aston Villa are reportedly considering a January move for Bayern Munich centre-back Kim Min-jae, according to TEAMtalk. The outlet cites German publication fussball-news.de, which claims Villa are among a group of clubs monitoring the 29-year-old's situation in Bavaria ahead of the winter window opening on New Year's Day.

Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and AC Milan are also said to be tracking the South Korea international. Any potential deal is expected to start at around €25m to €30m, should Bayern decide to let him leave.

Unai Emery's squad has shipped nine goals across their first five Premier League fixtures this term. Saturday's 3-2 victory over Tottenham provided three points but underlined lingering concerns at the back, particularly after Ezri Konsa was sold to Arsenal during the summer.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis arrived from Southampton before the deadline to reinforce the defence, yet Tyrone Mings and Victor Lindelof have been the primary pairing while Pau Torres recovers from a hamstring problem. An addition of Min-jae's profile would represent a significant upgrade on those current options.

Despite not being a guaranteed starter for the Bundesliga champions, the defender remained in Munich beyond the summer transfer window. He has featured in all five of Bayern's league matches so far this campaign, accumulating just under 400 minutes of playing time, including an appearance after the interval during their recent seven-goal thrashing of Union Berlin.

Bayern's management are reportedly planning talks with the player in December to discuss his long-term role at the club. Those conversations will likely determine whether he becomes available when Premier League teams can next register new signings in January.
