Manzambi hailed as better than Rogers after Tottenham display

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former senior Villa scout Bryan King offered high praise for the midfielder's performance. King suggested that Manzambi already appeared more effective than Morgan Rogers, who completed a move to Chelsea in July. "On that performance, he certainly outshone Rogers on Friday night," King told the outlet, adding: "He certainly impressed me on that performance. You could see somebody who wanted to play football."

Manzambi joined Aston Villa from SC Freiburg in a deal reported by Football Insider to be worth £50 million, making him the club's record signing. The Switzerland international had attracted interest from elsewhere before Villa finalised the transfer on 17 July, and his wait for a first league start was extended by fitness issues.

His contribution against Spurs was notable for its directness. According to figures cited by Football Insider, the midfielder attempted four dribbles, took four shots, created two chances and won four duels during the contest. He also registered a tackle, a block, a clearance and four ball recoveries without possession.

Rogers, meanwhile, has settled quickly at Stamford Bridge following his departure from Villa Park. Football Insider reports that the England international has recorded three goals and four assists across seven appearances for his new club this season. King acknowledged that replacing such output represented a significant challenge for any incoming player.

With the summer transfer window now closed until January 2027, Villa's focus remains on integrating their recent additions into Emery's squad. Manzambi's immediate impact against Tottenham offers an encouraging indication that the club's substantial investment may begin paying dividends sooner than anticipated.
