Alan Shearer praises Nicolas Jackson after Tottenham victory

Nicolas Jackson earned high praise from Alan Shearer after scoring his first Premier League goal for Aston Villa during Saturday's 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Speaking on Match of the Day, the former England striker highlighted the physical presence and sharp finishing the forward displayed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jackson doubled Villa's lead shortly after the hour mark, building on Johan Manzambi's strike just before half-time. Emiliano Buendía added a third before the hosts pulled two back late on, but Unai Emery's side held firm to secure their first league win of the campaign.

According to Birmingham Live, Shearer was particularly impressed by how the summer arrival tormented the home defence. He noted the forward's aggression and constant threat when running in behind, suggesting the opposition centre-backs simply could not cope with his movement between them.

The Chelsea signing was identified as the preferred option to fill the void left by Watkins' departure to Al Hilal. Emery had monitored him across previous transfer windows before finally securing his services at the end of August.

Shearer pointed to the quality of the touch and finish for the goal itself as evidence of what Jackson can offer. He stressed that consistency will be the next requirement, adding that maintaining such performances would prove the move an astute piece of business.

Villa now turn their attention to Brentford at Villa Park on Saturday 10 October, where Jackson will look to build on a promising start to his time in claret and blue.
